to improve child protection.

The official campaigns
The foundation has taken part in campaigns put in place by public
authorities :
in 1984: " mon corps et mon corps " (My body is my body)
in 1988: " Les abus sexuels à l'égard des enfants, comment
en parler ? " Sexual abuse towards children, how to talk about it
?)
in 1997: The Children's Foundation was a partener of the
The Great National Cause of Mistreated Children : " Si le monde
bouge, ça bougera " (If the world moves, it will change).
The media
The Children's Foundation organises the media prize every year,
which is awarded to television programs (Documentaries, childrens
series, fiction). The publicised responses allow them to educate
and inform the public.
Soon the foundation wishes to make the media aware
of the subject of recent news (the children in armed conflicts in
1996, the disapearences of children in 1997, the homeless young
people in 1998).
The publications
The Children's Foundation publish 3 or 4 works each year on precise
themes (family, education and health) in the ERES editions,), specific
bulletins for different sections of the public, a quarterly information
newsletter.
The Information Center
The Information Centre of the Children's
Foundation is putting a database of information on the mistreatment
of children and the children's rights agreement at the disposition
of professionals working with children, researchers and students.
To Form
Training
is the fundamental tool used to improve the understanding and follow
up of difficult situations that children and their families go through.
The research and training
unit offers specific training sessions destined for different
categories of professionals working with children, in order to improve
their knowledge and practises on the matter of child protection.
These specific modules bring together multi-discipline and multi-institutional
groups, with the aim of improving their capacity to work in teams.
Themed seminars, study days, national and international
conferences are offered every year. They are spread out over 4 national
and regional study days and one international conference.
Interactive teaching methods (case studies, group
work etc) centred on the person and their daily work allow :
A better theoretical knowledge of the complexity of the phenomenon
of mistreatment towards children,
A re-enforcement of professional competance giving adequate intervention
techniques,
The sharing of information, methods and means with the view to
developping an effective partnership between professionals,
An adapted response to the dificulties and questions encountered
in their daily work.
The seminar leaders are all professionals qualified
to a high level, confronted by the realities of the work, who know
how to adapt to changes within this domain.
All the training given in the Children's Foundation
centres can also be carried out anywhere on demand. The meetings
and the personalised training sessions can be organised in Paris
or other provinces.
8000 professionals have been trained trained in
5 years (solicitors, judges, police, teachers, doctors, nurses,
social workers etc.)
CONTACTS
Prevention
The prevention of mistreatment towards children
needs the help of the professionals working with children and adolescents,
the public and other associations.
Some examples:
The Children's Foundation has made these brochures available
to all:
"Etre parent pas si facile " (being a parent isn't that easy),
for first time parents,
" Comprendre, reconnaître, intervenir pour protéger les enfants
maltraités " (understand, recognise and intervene to protect mistreated
children),
" Lilie a été suivie " (Lili was followed)
" Le petit livre pour dire non " (the little book on how to say
no),
" Détection et dépistage des mauvais traitments à enfants " (Detection
and identification of the mistreatment of children).
The foundation also took part in the development of the parenthood
centre in Saint-Cyr-l'Ecole run by Dr Delassus, who takes into
the centre mothers and new born babies in order to reenforce the
mother-baby bond.
It is itself the intermediary between the different prevention
programs by way of its Information centre:
" Parler de la violence " (Talking about violence), is a program
destined for adolescents of 15 to 18 years of age. The aim is
for them to realise that a violent impulse can lead to a successive
uncontrolable chain of violence.
" Histoire d'en parler " (Talking about what's happened), is a
program of prevention centred around a support video allowing
children to identify mistreatment.
Support
Numerous operations have benefited from financial support from
the Children's Foundation since its creation :
By the granting of annual subsidies to associations working directly
with the victims
By the promotion of works, audio-visual productions or concrete
projects that are covered by the prizes given out by the Children's
Foundation (scientific prize, media prize, new project prize,
and the prize for the baby project.
The Drop in centre
, for the families and children who are victims of violence, thanks
to the trained volonteers, guarantee the presence of someone to
answer calls every afternoon.
